Professor Marin Chonev

Marin Chonev, the father of our CEO and International Director, Kalin Tchonev, was the founder and leading choir-master of "Morski Zvutsi" (The Representative Varna Civic Chorus). He was a lecturing professor of conducting at the Varna Open University, the Varna Institute of Post-Graduate Qualifications for Teachers, and the Plovdiv Conservatory. He was also the founder and leading choirmaster of the Choir of Varna Boys and Young Men.

Professor Chonev founded the International Choral Competition in Varna, Bulgaria, which is part of a larger group of five other European choral competitions and is seen as part of the European Grand Prix for Choral Singing.

Some of his awards and accomplishments include the 2012 Chrystal Lira Award, the Varna Arts Award, the Honorable Citizen of the City of Varna Award, the Honoris Causa Doctorate Award by the University of Shuman, and a National Medal for Exceptional Achievements in the Sphere of Culture and Music, which was awarded by the President of Bulgaria.

Beloved by the Bulgarian music community, after his death in 2012, the Morski Zvoutsi Choir and the Choir of Varna Boys and Young Men, offered the following tribute, "Through his hard work and dedication, Professor Marin Chonev has become the musical emblem of Varna. Although honesty and sincerity make one vulnerable, he remained an honest and sincere man, invulnerable to the whims of the times in which he lived. Marin Chonev not only lived among us by generously endowing us his talents as a teacher and conductor, but he also touched and blessed us, impacting the lives of many people."
