Dale Morehouse, baritone, came to UMKC in 2005 after previous full-time appointments at Southern Methodist University, University of Mississippi, and Texas Wesleyan University. In summers, he coordinates the Art of Song vocal program at Italy’s Orvieto Musica chamber music festival. He taught for six years at the American Institute of Musical Studies (AIMS) in Graz, Austria and three years at the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival in Alaska. Morehouse has sung over 80 leading baritone roles in opera, operetta, and musical theatre with 37 companies throughout the USA. In Europe, he recently sang Barber with the Cassatt Quartet at Italy’s Orvieto Musica; Liszt at Liszt’s Birth House in Raiding, Austria; and sacred works of Haydn and Mozart at Vienna’s St. Stephan’s Cathedral and Eisenstadt’s Esterhazy Palace and Bergkirche. At UMKC, he has performed major works of J. S. Bach, Vaughan Williams, Copland, Grieg, Mendelssohn, Monteverdi, Schoenberg, Britten, Saint-Saens, and Walton. As a stage director, Morehouse recently guided the national premieres of Puccini’s Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi at Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk State Opera and collaborated in directing a joint production of Puccini’s Tosca that starred Samuel Ramey with Wichita Grand Opera and the Bulgarian State Opera. He has directed productions for Sarasota Opera, Opera Memphis, Treasure Coast Opera, New York’s Opera of the Highlands, and South Florida Opera.
