Dan Ellis is no stranger to South Carolina. Though he grew up in Platteville, WI, he spent his summers watching his grandfather Dan Atkins Ellis, the former Director of Bands, conduct the community band concerts at Furman University. Dan began his undergraduate studies in Boston at the New England Conservatory, continuing his Bachelor's Degree at the University of Iowa and went on to complete his Master's Degree at the University of Georgia. He graduated from UGA with distinction and was a winner of the UGA Wind Band Concerto Competition. He is currently Principal Oboe of the SC Philharmonic and Aiken Symphony. Dan also frequently performs with the Greenville, Spartanburg, and Hendersonville, Augusta, and Charleston Symphonies during their regular seasons. Dan has received fellowships for Festivals in Miami, Florida, and Saarsburg, Germany. Primary teachers include John Ferrillo, Courtney Miller, and Reid Messich.
