Danny Alford

Dr. Danny Alford is a performer and educator based in Lexington, Kentucky. He has performed with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Charleston Symphony Orchestra, Columbus Symphony Orchestra, and the Spartanburg Philharmonic, and previously served as principal trombone of the Athens Symphony. Danny has also worked as a freelance musician performing in chamber ensembles across Kentucky, Georgia, South Carolina, and Connecticut. In addition to his orchestral work, Danny has been a featured soloist with several ensembles including UGA's British Brass Band, Trombone Choir, and the Bulldog Brass Quintet. In 2024 he premiered his commissioned piece for trombone and fixed media, Daniel Karcher's Enobmort Atanos, at the International Trombone Festival. As an educator, Dr. Alford will be joining the faculty of a university (to be officially announced) in Fall 2025. He previously served as interim adjunct professor of trombone at Eastern Kentucky University and currently teaches private lessons while serving as the trombone sectional instructor at Lafayette High School in Lexington. A proud alumnus of DCI's Carolina Crown, he has also worked as a low brass technician for several high school marching band camps in Georgia and Kentucky. Dr. Alford holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Trombone Performance from the University of Georgia, a Master of Music from the Yale School of Music, and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of Kentucky. His primary teachers include Dr. Josh Bynum, Scott Hartman, and Brad Kerns.
