Darina Takova was born in Sofia, Bulgaria and completed her musical education at the National Music Academy. While a student, she joined the cast at the Sofia National Opera and Ballet, where she made her first professional debuts in roles such as the Queen of the Night from W. A. Mozart's The Magic Flute, Gilda in Rigoletto and Violetta in La Traviata by Verdi, Lucia in "Lucia di Lammermoor" by Donizetti and many others. With the role of Lucia, she won the prestigious competition for young opera singers named after the legendary Bulgarian bass, Boris Christoff in Sofia.

This was followed by first prizes from the "Toti dal Monte" competition in Treviso, "Luisa Todi" in Lisbon and the grand prix and prize for best coloratura soprano from the "Francisco Viñas" competition in Barcelona. These achievements launched a career that took Ms. Takova to the most prestigious opera stages around the world, performing the central female roles in operas of diverse repertoire of styles and eras from the early Baroque, Mozart, the Italian belcanto composers Rossini, Bellini, and Donizetti, Verdi, Puccini, French grand opera, Russian composers, Richard Strauss and contemporary composers.

She has sung on the stages of La Scala in Milan, Arena di Verona, Carnegie Hall, Concertgebouw, Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera in London, operas in Paris, Berlin, Munich, Madrid, Barcelona, Rome, Venice, Florence, Naples, Seoul, Los Angeles, Tel Aviv, Tokyo, Vancouver and many more. As an important center of her career and artistic path, Darina Takova defines her long experience on the stages of traditional Italian theaters. In addition to numerous appearances on the stages of theaters such as the Milan Scala, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, La Fenice in Venice, Arena di Verona and Teatro Filarmonico di Verona, Teatro Verdi di Sassari, Maggio musicale di Firenze, Teatro reggio di Parma, Teatro reggio di Torino , Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, Teatro Verdi Trieste, Teatro Massimo di Palermo, Teatro Zandonai Rovereto, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Festival Donizetti in Bergamo, Teatro dell'opera di Roma, Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro.

Since 2007, Darina Takova has been a teacher of opera singing and her students have been accepted into prestigious conservatories all over the world. In 2020, she joined the Boris Christoff academy for young opera singers at the Bulgarian cultural institute in Rome, where she is the head vocal coach.
