Huifang Chen is a dynamic violinist, conductor, and educator whose artistry has captivated audiences worldwide. Originally from Taiwan and now a long-time U.S. resident, she has built a multifaceted career blending performance and education.

As a violin soloist, Huifang has performed with orchestras such as the Taipei Symphony Orchestra in Taiwan, the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra in the Czech Republic, and U.S. ensembles including the Symphonia of Boca Raton and South Florida Symphony Orchestra (SFSO). In 2012, she recorded Thomas Sleeper’s Violin Concerto “Hypnagogia”   which was dedicated to her with the Brno Philharmonic, released on Albany Records in 2014. In 2021, she was featured on Naxos with SFSO, performing John Gottsch’s Princess Yurievskaya.

Since 2020, she has served as Concertmaster of the SFSO and was appointed Associate Conductor in 2022, conducting numerous concerts across South Florida. An active chamber musician, Huifang has been a key artist in SFSO’s “Summer with the Symphony” series since 2021. In 2022, she toured Ireland with pianist Catherine Lan as Duo Formosa captivating audiences across four cities.

As a dedicated educator, Ms. Chen has been Music Director of the Greater Miami Youth Symphony since 2008, nurturing young talent and fostering a love for orchestral music. She teaches at the New World School of the Arts in Miami and Dreyfoos School of the Arts in West Palm Beach. From 2020 to 2024, she taught and performed at the Killington Music Festival in Vermont and will guest conduct at the Sewanee Summer Music Festival in Tennessee in 2025.

Ms. Chen’s dedication to her students is evident in their achievements; many have won top prizes in local and international competitions and have been accepted into prestigious institutions such as the Curtis Institute of Music and the Juilliard School. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes technical mastery, artistic expression, and a comprehensive understanding of music, fostering discipline, creativity, and a lifelong passion for the art. 

A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, Huifang studied under violin legend Jascha Brodsky. She won the 1999 Young Concert Artist Prize from the National Concert Hall in Taipei and the 2003 Concerto Competition at the University of Miami, where she earned her Master’s degree in 2005. She was a member of the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra from 1994 until its disbandment in 2003.
