Opera News calls Director Jeffrey Buchman “a formidable talent.” Constantly pushing the limits of the performing arts, his innovation puts him at the forefront of a new era in directing. He has created productions for Atlanta Opera, Seattle Opera, Florida Grand Opera, Opera Colorado, Hawaii Opera Theatre, Michigan Opera Theatre, Brevard Music Festival, Syracuse Opera, Toledo Opera, Lyric Opera of Baltimore, Orlando Philharmonic, Grand Rapids Symphony, Mobile Opera, Tulsa Opera, Sarasota Opera, Intermountain Opera, Anchorage Opera and Opera Naples.
He has a long history of fostering the artistic growth of young artists around the world, including directing productions for Young Artist Programs at Seattle Opera, Tulsa Opera, Sarasota Opera, Brevard Music Festival, Florida Grand Opera, Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, International Vocal Arts Institute, Tokyo International Vocal Arts Academy, Brancaleoni International Music Festival, and the Herb Alpert School of Music at UCLA.
He has been guest stage director at Philadelphia's Academy of Vocal Arts since 2017, where he has created productions of La Bohème, Don Giovanni, La Traviata, Roméo et Juliette, Die Zauberflöte and Il Barbiere di Siviglia. At the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, he has created productions of Carmen, La bohème, La Traviata and Ainadamar. He currently serves as interim program director and stage director for Frost Opera Theater at the University of Miami Frost School of Music.
In his early career as a singer, major national and international prizes included winning the prestigious Luciano Pavarotti International Voice Competition, First Prize in the National Voice Competition of the National Society of Arts and Letters and a Richard F. Gold career grant from the Shoshana Foundation.
