Jonathan Burns

Double Bass

Jonathan Burns is a freelance double bassist/bass guitarist and private teacher. He has taught 5th Grade Beginner Strings in Lexington School District #1 and is a frequent clinician for bass students attending Region and All-State Orchestras. Jonathan started playing the bass with the USC String Project. He has studied in Columbia with bass teachers Alison Mann, Jose Carrión, and Timothy Easter. He attended the Eastman School of Music for 3 years studying with James VanDemark and returned to SC to earn the Bachelor of Music degree at the University of South Carolina studying with Dr. Craig Butterfield. He earned the Master of Music degree in Double Bass Performance at the University of Memphis under the tutelage John Chiego. Jonathan has performed with the South Carolina Philharmonic, Aiken Symphony Orchestra, Aiken Civic Orchestra, Long Bay Symphony, Rock Hill Symphony Orchestra, Florence Symphony Orchestra, and the Colour of Music Festival Orchestra. He has performed as a music ambassador for the University of Memphis; traveling to Switzerland, Germany, and Austria. Jonathan played with the Varna International Orchestra in Italy and the Bel Canto Singers in the Bahamas. He also performs for several churches in the region. Jonathan is an avid gamer and content creator; he posts music videos occasionally on YouTube and streams practice sessions/video game playthroughs on Twitch under the name “ibass86”. He is also an adventurous eater and enjoys trying a wide variety of cuisines wherever he travels. To offset his food adventures and when time allows, Jonathan works out at the gym & practices gentle yin yoga.
