Kiril Matanov

Kiril Matanov was born in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. He received his early musical education at the Dobrin Petkov Secondary School of Music in Plovdiv, where he studied viola under Stoyka Staneva and Konstantin Arkhipov. During his formative years, he distinguished himself as a prizewinner at national competitions, earning first prizes at the Provadia National Competition (1988) and the Kyustendil National Competition. In 1995, he graduated from the National Academy of Music Pancho Vladigerov in Sofia, where he studied viola with Prof. Ognyan Stanchev. In the same year, he was appointed violist of the Sofia Philharmonic following a successful audition. Subsequently, he was invited to serve as principal violist of the AGBU Sofia Chamber Orchestra, with which he has also appeared as a soloist. His performances have been noted for their technical refinement, stylistic sensitivity, and distinguished tonal quality. Kiril Matanov maintains an active concert career, regularly collaborating with a wide range of established ensembles and chamber formations.
