Mira Yang

Dr. Mira Yang is a soprano with a wide-range and a great deal of flexibility, earned her D.M.A. Degree at The Catholic University of America, her Mater of Music from Peabody Conservatory, and BM from the Ewha Womens University. She earned Artists Diploma at Der Hochschule Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria; and appeared at the Final Concert in the Mozarteum Competition. In Italy she studied with Iris Adami Coradetti at the Societa dei Concerti, Santa Margherita Ligure. She also attended Altenburg Academy in Germany; AIMS in Graz, Austria; the Minnesota Opera Center (New Music Theatre Institute); Dicapo Opera summer program and the Shaker Mountain Festival She appeared with the Altenburg Opera Orchestra in Altenburg, Germany; the Korean Symphony Orchestra at the Lincoln Center, Alice Tully Hall, San Francisco Concerti Orchestra; The FMMC Chorale and Orchestra as Angelic Voice in the world premiere of "Flying into Egypt;" a cantata by Leonard Moses, and in Schubert's Magnificat. She has performed in solo recitals at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall; The Kennedy Center; as well as in Wupetal, Germany and St. Margherita Ligure, Italy; in a concert tour in Korea; and with the Opera Ensemble of Washington at The Kennedy Center, Terrace Theater. She worked with the Washington Opera and the Washington Concert Opera. She also worked with Pala Association for musical theatre repertoire. In addition, Dr. Yang has performed at The White House Christmas Concert in several years. She has performed the roles of Mimi (La Boheme), Liu (Trandott), Madama Butterfly (Madama Butterfly), Violetta (La Traviata), Lucia (Lucia di Lammemoor), Oscar (Un Ballo in Maschera), Blonchen (Abduction from the Seraglio), Queen of the Night (Magic Flute), Lakme (Lakme), Adina (L'Ellisir D'Amore), Zerbinetta (Ariadne auf Naxos), Papagena (Magic Flute), Norina (Don Pasquale), Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier), Gilda (Rigoletto), Micaela (Carmen), Juliette (Romeo et Juliette), and Euridice (Orfeo ed Euridice),Donna Anna ( Don Giovanni) and Libby (Blue Margaritas), in the world premiere of the work by Mr. Roger Trefousse. She also appeared, in the title role, in the World Premiere of the opera “Lang Ying” at the Kennedy Center. She won the 1998 San Francisco Concerti International Vocal Competition, 1996 Sarage Foundation Career Grant and the 1990 Korea Foundation Award. She has been giving lectures of Vocal Science and Health at the Classical Singers National Convention in Boston & Chicago, International Convention at Guangzhou & Shanghai in China, Seoul, Kashudo at Nyland & ICVT (International Congress of Voice Teachers) at Stockholm in Sweden. She served Arts in Communities Advisory Panel for Maryland State Arts Council. She is the Students’ Voice Competition Chair for the Friday Morning Music Club and annual Asian American Music Society International Music Competition chair. She served as a judge for the many International Voice Competitions. She has been an Adjunct Professor at American University, voice faculty at the Catholic University of America, and taught at the Musical Theater Center. Currently, she is Voice Professor at the George Mason University, Community Advisory Board for the Kennedy Center, President of the Asian American Music Society, Artistic Director of the Bethesda Summer Music Festival, AAMS International Summer Music Institute in Korea, Italy, Luxembourg, and Sweden, and AAMS Emerging Artists Workshop at REACH, Kennedy Center.
