Susan Dunn
Violin
Susan Dunn is an enthusiastic violinist from Greenville, South Carolina. She began her first violin lesson at age eight and has been part of the music duo of Soothing Reflections, LLC with her twin, Rita, since the age of nine. Susan has competed and won various violin competitions, placed twice in a national high school chamber competition, and was a member of the Young Artists Orchestra in Greenville. In 2022, she was a winner/recipient of the William McEver String Music Scholarship during commencement. Susan has also been a violinist with the Bob Jones University Symphony Orchestra (Concertmaster), and the Greenville Symphony Orchestra. Her other musical experiences include making recordings for CDs, creating and recording a soundtrack for a short film (which won first place at a film festival competition), and making a recording for a world premiere production by C.S. Lewis. Besides enjoying classical music, Susan also has played Celtic/Irish music different years for various Celtic Sounds musical productions and has been the featured violinist for the Irish Festival in Greenville; in Hawaii she has played traditional Hawaiian music both on the violin and ukulele and has played ukulele duets with Rita at luaus in Hawaii and on the East Coast. Susan has enjoyed teaching both privately, being a teaching assistant for grade school students, and teaching at a summer music camp. She has attended two music festivals and loved getting to visit Italy last summer being a violinist with the Cremona Music Festival that toured key cities in Italy. Susan has also had the privilege of having masterclasses or lessons under David Kim (Concertmaster of the Philadelphia Orchestra), Tessa Lark, Shannon Thomas, Majorie Bagley, and Courtney LeBauer. Other coaches include Carl Topilow, Conductor of the Cleveland Pops Orchestra and Richard Kaufman, legendary Grammy award-winning conductor of film and television productions. Susan recently received her B.A. in Violin Performance from Bob Jones University studying under Brandon Ironside and was granted the Special Talent Award Scholarship from Arizona State University. Her next immediate adventures include moving to Arizona to pursue a master's in Violin Performance at ASU studying with Dr. Katie McLin while simultaneously obtaining a Music Entrepreneurship Certificate.
