Tammy Hensrud, hailed by Switzerland’s Opernwelt as “...a remarkably beautiful voice capable of many colors and nuances...a singer who is also a natural actress” has appeared in opera houses throughout Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Japan, Israel, South Africa, and the United States including the Metropolitan Opera, Vienna State Opera, Stuttgart Opera, Theatre de Chatelet in Paris, Klagenfurt Stadttheater, Salzburg Festival, Cleveland Opera, Opera Orchestra of New York, New York City Opera, and the Spoleto Arts Festival under the batons of James Levine, Herbert Von Karajan, Emmanuelle Villaume, and others. Her core repertoire includes the great operatic roles of Strauss, Mozart, Rossini, Bellini and orchestral works of Mahler, Berlioz, and Wagner. World Premiere performances include concerts at Carnegie Hall, Symphony Space, the Center for Contemporary Opera in NYC and Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis.
A most versatile artist, she has performed Musical Theater, Cabaret and Kurt Weill at the Lucille Lortel Theater, Players Club, the Cafe? Sabarsky Series at Neue Galerie in NYC, the National Concert Hall in Dublin, Ireland, and recitals throughout Germany, Austria and France. Recent orchestral engagements include Mahler’s Kindertotenlieder, Des Knaben Wunderhorn, Lieder eines Fahrenden Gesellen, Rückert Lieder Berlioz's Les Nuit d'ete, Canteloube’s Chants d’Auvergne, and the premiere performance of Amy Beach’s rediscovered solo Cantata for Voice and Orchestra, Eilende Wolken, Segler der Lüfte.
Ms. Hensrud holds a BMus in cello performance and MMus in vocal performance from the University of North Dakota. As the recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship, she earned the Artist Diploma in Opera from the Stuttgart Hochschule für Musik with additional studies at Salzburg's Mozarteum, the Franz Liszt Musik Akademie, and L'École Hindemith in Vevey, Switzerland. She is Adjunct Professor of Voice and Coordinator of Vocal Studies at Hofstra University, Vocal Director of the Oyster Bay Summer Music Festival, and serves on the Guest Faculty of the Queens Summer Vocal Institute, and The Music in the Alps Summer Festival in Bad Gastein, Austria. She previously served on the Voice Faculty as Assistant Visiting Professor of Voice at St. Olaf College in MN.
