Opera and Oratorio

World-class training and performances

Participants enrolled in Varna International Music Academy (VIMA) will receive in-depth music instruction from our expert faculty and will benefit from unparalleled performance opportunities alongside world-class master artists. The program will take place in major cities of South Carolina: the Capital City of Columbia, the historic city of Charleston, and Myrtle Beach along the breathtaking shores of the Grand Strand.

The oratorio and opera performances will take place in the finest performance venues of SC: Koger Center for the Arts, Gaillard Center, and Myrtle Beach Music and Arts Center.

Participants accepted into the Opera and Oratorio Program will perform principal or supporting roles in fully staged orchestral opera productions and choral-orchestral concerts.

Our 2023 VIMA participants will be eligible to audition for future Varna International Productions in Europe and the USA. Apply for one of the options below and join us for an unforgettable summer of music.


REQUIEM, Verdi

JUNE 14 – 28, 2023

Scholarships available
  • Soloist in Verdi’s Requiem – one performance. Performance will be part of Muzika! The Grand Strand Music Festival.
  • Two 40-minute voice lessons per week
  • Two 40-minute coachings per week
  • Vocal masterclasses
  • Italian language classes
  • Alexander Technique classes
  • 14 nights lodging in the students residencies of the University of South Carolina (double occupancy)
  • Breakfast daily (7 days a week)

Street Scene, Kurt Weill (fully-staged orchestral performances)

June 14 - July 9, 2023

  • Two 40-minute voice lessons per week
  • Two 40-minute coachings per week
  • Music rehearsals with the Maestro
  • Staging rehearsals with the director
  • Vocal masterclasses
  • Italian language classes
  • Alexander Technique classes
  • Masterclass in movement, stage techniques, stage combat
  • 25 nights lodging in South Carolina, with host families and / or students residencies (double occupancy)

  • Featured or supporting role in one fully-staged orchestral performance of Street Scene, Kurt Weill. Performance will be part of Muzika! The Grand Strand Music Festival.
  • Musical Theater Review with Alex Lefevre
  • All Comprimario artists sing in the festival chorus
  • Perform in one voice recital - Italian Serenata
  • Two 40-minute voice lessons per week
  • Two 40-minute coachings per week
  • Music rehearsals with the Maestro
  • Staging rehearsals with the director
  • Vocal masterclasses
  • Italian language classes
  • Alexander Technique classes
  • Masterclass in movement, stage techniques, stage combat

Marriage of Figaro, Mozart (fully-staged orchestral performances)
