Opera and Oratorio

What you get

The Varna International Music Academy (VIMA) offers a variety of options for the summer Opera and Oratorio Program along the breathtaking shores of The Grand Strand, in Myrtle Beach and Conway, South Carolina. VIMA combines prestigious performance opportunities and world-class training under the tutelage of our internationally renowned faculty.

Participants accepted into the Opera and Oratorio Program will perform principal or supporting roles in fully-staged orchestral opera productions and choral-orchestral concerts.

Our 2022 VIMA participants will be eligible to apply for future Varna International Productions in Europe and the USA.

All VIMA 2022 programs are eligible for academic credit through Coastal Carolina University. For more information, please email our office and we will put you in touch with the university's coordinator.

STABAT MATER, Rossini

July 2-14, 2022$3600

Principal Artist Inclusions

  • Soloist in Rossini, Stabat Mater
  • Two voice lessons and two coaching
  • Vocal masterclasses
  • Italian language classes
  • Alexander Technique classes
  • Masterclass in movement, stage techniques, stage combat
  • Masterclass in contemporary dance techniques, acrobatics, and pantomime
  • 14 nights lodging at Coastal Carolina University residences (double occupancy)
  • Breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily (7 days a week)
Roles must be memorized upon arrival at the academy.

Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi, Puccini (fully-staged orchestral performances)

  • Three voice lessons and three coaching
  • Music rehearsals with the Maestro
  • Staging rehearsals
  • Vocal masterclasses
  • Italian language classes
  • Alexander Technique classes
  • Masterclass in movement, stage techniques, stage combat
  • Masterclass in contemporary dance techniques, acrobatics, and pantomime
  • 22 nights lodging at Coastal Carolina University residences (double occupancy)
  • Breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily (7 days a week)
Comprimario Artist Inclusions
  • Featured or supporting role in one fully-staged orchestral performance of Suor Angelica or Gianni Schicchi, Puccini. Performance will be part of Muzika! The Grand Strand Music Festival
  • All Comprimario artists sing in the oratorio and opera chorus
  • Perform in one voice recital - Liederabend
  • Three voice lessons and three coaching
  • Music rehearsals with the Maestro
  • Staging rehearsals
  • Vocal masterclasses
  • Italian language classes
  • Alexander Technique classes
  • Masterclass in movement, stage techniques, stage combat
  • Masterclass in contemporary dance techniques, acrobatics, and pantomime
